Moong Dal halwa recipe
Ingredients:
1 cup Moong dal (split yellow lentils)
1 cup ghee (clarified butter)
1 cup sugar
4 cups water
1/2 teaspoon cardamom powder
A few strands of saffron
Chopped nuts (for garnish)
Instructions:
- Wash the moong dal thoroughly and soak it in water for at least 2 hours.
- Drain the water and grind the dal in a food processor until it becomes a coarse paste.
- Heat ghee in a heavy-bottomed pan and add the Moong dal paste.
- Cook the dal over low heat, stirring continuously, until it turns golden brown and starts to release the aroma of cooked lentils.
- In a separate pan, bring water to a boil and add sugar, cardamom powder, and saffron strands.
- Stir until the sugar dissolves completely, and then add this mixture to the moong dal paste.
- Keep stirring the halwa until the water evaporates, and the ghee starts to separate from the lentil paste.
- Turn off the heat, and garnish the halwa with chopped nuts before serving.
- Your delicious Moong Dal Halwa is ready to be served!
